ACRO WITH JAKE SILVESTRO
6TH & 13TH MAY
A circus and visual artist, Jake is excited by fine art, theatre and storytelling. With a passion for creative experience and boundless energy for physical movement, he has carved a career in multiple art forms since 2010. Jake has toured with the internationally successful Circus OZ, CIRCA, Casus, Company 2, Dislocate and GOP, as well as many small to medium sized arts companies in Australia.
After graduating from the ANU School of Art and Design, Jake founded his own company, Poncho Circus, based in Canberra. He produced and toured physical theatre productions from 2012 – 2017 with this collective. Outside of his touring work he has maintained his own projects to continue his professional arts practice in illustration, prop making and acrobatic research.
In 2020, Jake created his first solo show ‘December’, that explored his two main artforms of drawing and acrobatics in reflection on the bushfire crisis of 2019/2020. This show will be touring nationally in 2021 and 2022.
Jake has a reputation for his dynamic, explosive, and fusion of styles. In 2018, he toured a workshop series called ‘Hurricane’ which broke down his signature style to help students explore creative movement and acrobatic dance.
"Foundations of physical contact through the lense of acrobatics"
After a decade of performing acrobatics around the world, Jake Silvestro will be delivering two workshops aimed at introducing the fundamental elements of contact, weight bearing and ensemble movement. Focusing on movement efficiency and taking weight, this workshop invites participants into the first steps of physical connection that are involved in contact improv and group acrobatics. This workshop is open to all levels and will begin by demonstrating the strength we can find when working as a group. By sharing weight and trusting others through physical contact dancers can find new and exciting ways of engaging with others.
