DANCE ARTISTS IN SCHOOLS
After a very successful start to our Dance Artists in Schools Primary and Secondary Program in Term 1 & 2, and continuous growth during Term 3, Ausdance ACT is excited to open bookings for the last term of 2022.
This program creates the special opportunity to work with some of the leading dance artists in Canberra. All teachers will share their vast knowledge in dance, from technique to choreography and cultural awareness.
Ausdance ACT endorses professional, highly qualified, experienced teaching practitioners and facilitates WWVP checks, COVID Safe Procedures and risk assessment for schools.
There are a wide range of genres available in Term 4 including Cultural Dance (Afro, Chinese, Indigenous), Hip Hop, Creative Dance, Ballet, Contemporary Dance and more!
Ausdance ACT cherishes the value of dance as one of the most powerful art forms to be used in education, with the purpose of reinforcing self-expression, teamwork, respect, pure joy, great energy and wellbeing.

"Ausdance ACT's Dance Artists in School Program is a great way to connect with the ACT dance community and tap into the wealth of experience and knowledge that exists within our own backyard. Ausdance ACT make the whole process straight forward and will work with teachers to tailor and access the right workshop for your needs. Having access to a range of teachers and dance styles meant that I could use the program to provide fun and different practical experiences for my students, which they loved!"
Jessica Mercer, Dance and Drama Teacher, Assistant Head of Performing Arts - Senior School, Canberra Grammar School
From our Dance Artists
"I had such a lovely time teaching! The students were enthusiastic, eager to learn new movements and so respectful of the different cultural dance styles." Emma Laverty - Independent Artist Indigenous Dance
‘It was such a lovely experience, and I would love to come back and teach again!’ Sonia Raveena - Independent Artist Bollywood
‘It was an absolute pleasure to be teaching. The students were challenged with movements that are highly unfamiliar to the Canberra dance scene. They focused on a group movement choreography piece rather than an individual piece, which is characteristic to classical dance forms.’ Kate Tieu - Independent Artist Classical Chinese Dance
'It was great to do some dancing and creating with so many kids at such varied ages! Their amazing enthusiasm and excitement was energising and inspiring. It was a pleasure to have a groove with them'. Alana Stenning - Independent Artist Contemporary Dance
Ausdance ACT is excited to be partnering with Project Beats to present the first in a series of dance programs for primary aged students planned for 2022.
To celebrate the Canberra Street Dance Festival, we are offering a 6 week dance program for ACT Primary Schools, starting in Week 5 of Term 1, 2022.
Part of a national network, Ausdance ACT is the peak body for dance in the ACT and provides high quality accessible and inclusive dance programs, from across all genres, which engage and inspire participants.
Project Beats are committed to sharing their love of street dance to Canberra’s youth, empowering kids to express themselves in healthy, fun and creative ways, while also getting active.
An experienced Project Beats Instructor (with WWVP registration) will visit the participating schools once a week for 6 weeks to teach a street dance routine.
Our school visits COVID19 Safety Plan can be viewed here.
Students will learn about one of the following street styles: Hip Hop, Popping, Locking, Breaking, House or Waacking.
Students will learn about the history and culture of the style and the basic foundational movements.
All music selection and arrangement will be done by Project Beats and will be age appropriate.
The content will prepare the class for a performance on Saturday the 9th of April 2022 at the Canberra Street Dance Festival. This will be a great opportunity to showcase what the students have learnt over the program, while building performance experience and confidence in a supportive and fun atmosphere.
