Plans are well underway for 2023 Australian Dance Week!


Canberra's dance scene is abundant and thriving and Ausdance ACT, along with the Ausdance network, celebrates and promotes dance in all its forms every year during Australian Dance Week.


Ausdance ACT will present a mixture of accessible, curated, and open events from 28 April - 7 May 2023.

Bharatanatyam Dance Workshop with Vaidehi Subramanyan

This workshop is presented during Ausdance ACT's 2023 Australian Dance Week and will take participants through the basic postures and movements of Bharatanatyam and then introduce participants to some hand gestures used in Bharatanatyam. Participants will be shown how these hand gestures, along with the basic movements, can be used to tell a short story from Hindu mythology.

The workshop is aimed at participants of all ages, with or without prior dance experience.

Ausdance ACT Bursary: Doing Dramaturgy - Australasia

Applications are now open for The Centre of Applied Dramaturgy - CoAD online, intensive, professional development course, ‘Doing Dramaturgy - Australasia’.

Ausdance ACT is pleased to be able to sponsor one bursary place for a dance artist based in the Canberra region. The bursary will cover course costs for the selected participant, who will be chosen in a competitive process through application.

With limited places available for mid-career choreographers and developing or established dramaturgs, this course draws on Lou Cope’s extensive career, working as a dramaturg with world class choreographers and theatre makers.

Applications are now closed.

An announcement will be made shortly on the successful applicant.

After a very successful Dance Artists in Schools Primary and Secondary Program in 2022, we are excited to share with you our plans for Term 1 2023 and open for bookings.

This program creates the special opportunity to work with some of the leading dance artists in Canberra. All teachers will share their vast knowledge in dance, from technique to choreography and cultural awareness.

Ausdance ACT endorses professional, highly qualified, experienced teaching practitioners and facilitates WWVP checks, COVID Safe Procedures and risk assessment for schools.

We can tailor a school visit or workshop to suit your needs. There are a wide range of genres available including Cultural Dance (Afro, Chinese, Indigenous), Hip Hop, Creative Dance, Ballet, Contemporary Dance and more.

Ausdance ACT Receives Canberra Critics Circle Award


We were absolutely thrilled this evening to receive a Canberra Critics Award presented by Elizabeth Cameron Dalman at the Canberra Museum and Gallery.

‘Ausdance ACT - for its initiative in bringing together dance filmmakers from the ACT and South Australia in October 2021 and September 2022 in Dance.Focus. Where nine short films were commissioned and shown, thus widening knowledge and understanding of Canberra’s dance culture beyond the ACT.’

Ausdance ACT's 2022 Youth Dance Festival Download is ready for you to purchase!


Youth Dance Festival provides a platform for young people to express their ideas and opinions, to have their voices heard through dance. With a theme of 'Transience and Permanence', Ausdance ACT presents a multimedia delivery of film and live performance.

DANCE.FOCUS Now Films Available On Demand


New films for Dance.Focus 2022 by five dance artists are now available On Demand via YouTube.

Dance. Focus is a project of Dance Hub SA in partnership with Ausdance ACT and with support from Ausdance SA.

This Australian dance film commission is designed for choreographers to challenge, resonate and engage with screen dance.

These classes are designed for adults who want to keep their body and brain active and healthy, regardless of their mobility, skill or age.


Come along and feed your body and spirit with music and movement; be physically and mentally inspired and stimulated, have fun, meet some new friends and feel good!
