Our Workshop Series program is intended to inspire and expand dance practice by connecting participants to different styles, cultures, and ways of experiencing and understanding dance in its multiple facets. Workshops connect pre professional advanced and intermediate dancers with professional artists and companies.
While in Canberra, Bangarra Dance Theatre is committed to engaging with the community beyond their performance by holding a beautiful contemporary dance workshop inspired by the company’s work ‘Sheltering’, on at the Canberra Theatre 23-27 May.
The workshop will focus on exploring cultural elements of dance in a contemporary setting. The event is open to dancers 14+ years old, independent dance artists, dance teachers and adult dancers with an intermediate to advanced level of training in contemporary dance.
The session will be facilitated by the wonderful company members, Kassidy Waters, Daniel Mateo and Tamara Bouman, who will share the rich culture and history that is sewn through their storytelling.

Expand your movement horizons this Australian Dance Week with acclaimed artist and educator Floeur Alder. Enjoy a warm and welcoming class where you’ll explore new ways of moving and develop flexibility at your own pace.
The session features the rare Floorebarre technique — a floor-based blend of yoga and classical ballet that builds strength, flexibility, and rotation.
With an international lineage, Floorebarre is taught exclusively in Australia by Floeur, one of only a handful of practitioners worldwide.
Followed by an accessible contemporary technique class and creative elements drawn from Djilba.
Open to participants aged ten years and over with some dance or yoga experience, this workshop supports injury recovery and enhances everyday mobility.
10.30am Sunday 3rd May, D Block Gorman Arts Centre
All tickets $35

We were delighted to host two Masterclasses with Victorian State Ballet's Michael Scott-Kahans and Grace Kefford during the Canberra Theatre Centre season of ALADDIN.
The masterclassses (junior and senior) consisted of classical ballet barre and centre work on stage of The Playhouse. There was a short Q&A and photo opportunities at the end of the sessions.
Presented with support from Canberra Theatre Centre.

Ausdance ACT was thrilled to offer a contemporary dance workshop for local dancers, led by Garabari’s Artistic Director and Choreographer, Joel Bray during the show's Canberra season.
'Garabari' is a high energy dance gathering where Wiradjuri story meets a pulsing techno beat. Step onto the dance floor, join the movement and feel the shared spirit of corroboree as traditional song and modern sound come alive together.
The workshop focussed on repertoire from 'Garabari', and Joel shared his performance‑making approach, including his improvisation method, En Route.
Joel is an artist living on Kulin Country (Melbourne) and is a proud Wiradjuri man. He trained at NAISDA and WAAPA before pursuing a career in Europe and Israel, later returning to Australia to work with CHUNKY MOVE. Joel’s choreographic practice spans dance, experimental performance, and screen-based work.
The workshop was well attended by local dancers of all ages and was presented with the support of Canberra Theatre Centre and Gorman Arts Centre.
‘Garabari’ is presented by Joel Bray Dance and produced by BlakDance.
